丙甲菌素可以激发植物抗性,造成核糖体核糖核酸(rRNA)断裂相关的损伤和快速死亡,因而对植物有害。丙甲菌素可增加拟南芥根顶端分生和表皮组织的细胞通透性。丙甲菌素有助于茉莉酸诱导的异株泻根(Bryonia dioica)卷须卷曲。
