该分子试剂是一种聚阴离子染料,通常会与阳离子猝灭剂DPX(X1525)结合用于膜融合或通透性测定,包括补体介导的免疫裂解。ANTS的荧光已证实可被铊和铯离子有效淬灭。可用作神经元示踪剂。ANTS在水中具有相对较高的斯托克斯位移,这足以将其发射的光与生物样品的大多数自发荧光区分开。 D2O可将ANTS的荧光量子产率提高四倍,而这已被证明可用于测定红细胞鬼影和肾脏收集管中的透水性。碳水化合物的还原末端可与ANTS分子的伯氨基发生反应形成席夫碱,其随后可通过氰基硼氢化钠被还原为仲胺。该还原性胺化反应是酸催化的,因此反应溶液的pH值可通过ANTS改变碳水化合物的动力学和衍生化程度。需要特别注意的是,该反应能够在中性pH下进行,而这对于寡糖中对酸水解敏感的唾液酸键的完整性是有利的。用ANTS对碳水化合物进行这样的标记使得通过毛细管电泳对复杂的混合物进行分离成为可能。
