Cell Line Origin
Human oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma
Cell Line Description
Established from a poorly differentiated invasive oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma resected from middle intra-thoracic oesophagus of a 77-year-old Japanese man prior to treatment. This cell line has been mycoplasma eradicated at ECACC. By short tandem repeat (STR)-PCR analysis the Y chromosome could not be detected in this cell line. It is a known phenomenon that SSC cell lines can lose their Y chromosome.
Culture Medium
RPMI 1640 + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS)

Split confluent cultures 1:5 to 1:10 i.e. seeding at 2-4x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C. Doubling time ~35 hours.
