Gene Information

human ... ANGPTL3(27329)

General description

Angiopoietin-related protein 3 (ANGPTL3) is a member of the ANGPTL family and is expressed in the liver. The ANGPTL3 gene is mapped on the human chromosome at 1p31.3. Mutations in the ANGPTL3 gene lead to familial combined hypolipidemia, a Mendelian condition that is indicated by lower levels of triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. The ANGPTL3 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) kit provides for the quantitative measurement of angiopoietin-related protein 3 in cell culture supernatants, plasma, and serum.

Angiopoietin-like proteins (ANGPTLs) play major roles in the trafficking and metabolism of lipids. Inactivation of ANGPTL3, a gene located in an intron of DOCK7, results in very low levels of LDL-cholesterol (C), HDL-C and triglyceride (TAG). We identified another ANGPTL

Angiopoietin-like (ANGPTL) 8 is a secreted inhibitor of LPL, a key enzyme in plasma triglyceride metabolism. It was previously reported that ANGPTL8 requires another member of the ANGPTL family, ANGPTL3, to act on LPL. ANGPTL3, much like ANGPTL4, is a
