General description

Bactident Coagulase reagent enables reliable detection of the enzyme coagulase developed by Staphylococcus aureus. Coagulase is an enzyme with the ability to coagulate plasma. Staphylococcus aureus forms two types of coagulases; (i) the free coagulase is an extracellular enzyme, and (ii) the bound coagulase is localized on the surface of the cell wall. The tube test can detect both enzymes, while the slide test can detect only the bound coagulase.

Application

An overnight broth culture of Staphylococcus aureus is incubated with rehydrated EDTA-rabbit plasma, which is contained in Bactident Coagulase. The coagulase test is positive if more than three-quarters of the tube contents form a coherent clot.
