Individuals with congenital fibrosis of the extraocular muscle type 3 (CFEOM3) show mutations in TUBB3. βIII-tubulin modulates glucose metabolism, thereby transforms glucose starvation stress signaling to develop the multiplication of cell and survival in non-small cell lung cancer cells.

Tubulin is the major constituent of microtubules. It binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha-chain. TUBB3 plays a critical role in proper axon guidance and mantainance.
