Metazachlor metabolite M479H004 is a major degradation product of metazachlor. Metazachlor is a chloroacetamide herbicide, mainly used to control annual weeds and broadleaf weeds before or after germination. It is absorbed through the roots or stems and affects elongase activity during lipid biosynthesis, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of very long-chain fatty acids. Metazachlor also interferes with cell division and tissue differentiation during growth, resulting in the production of deformed seeds.

As per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009, repealing the directive 91/414/ECC, metazachlor is approved for use in the European Union (EU). The maximum residue limit (MRL) for metazachlor presence in the crops varies between 0.02 mg/kg in most of the commodities to 0.9 mg/kg for turnip, Horse radishes, and Swedes/rutabagas in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2021/1807.

Application

The certified reference material (CRM) is intended to be used as a calibrant for chromatography and other analytical techniques.
The metazachlor metabolite M479H004 CRM may also find the following uses:
  • To determine the effects of environmentally relevant concentrations of metazachlor and its metabolite on the marbled crayfish
  • Determination of the metabolites of the herbicide metazachlor in agricultural crops by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)

Scientific reports, 10(1), 875-875 (2020-01-23)
The effects of the herbicide metazachlor and its major metabolite metazachlor OA at two concentrations, including environmentally relevant concentrations of metazachlor (0.0115 µmol/l and 0.0790 µmol/l) and metazachlor OA (0.0117 µmol/l and 0.0805 µmol/l), respectively, were evaluated on early ontogeny
