General description
Fluazifop-butyl belongs to the class of aryloxyphenoxy-propionate (AOPP) herbicides that is used for postemergence control of annual and perennial grasses in a range of broad-leaved crops. When applied, this selective herbicide is absorbed by leaves and acts by inhibiting the acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACCase) enzyme activity in plastids. Fluazifop-butyl rapidly degrades to the free acid form –fluazifop, a major chiral metabolite.
Fluazifop is not approved for use in European Union (EU) as per Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009. The maximum residue level (MRLs) for Fluazifop-P (sum of all the constituent isomers of fluazifop, its esters, and conjugates, expressed as fluazifop) has been set from 0.01 mg/kg to 9 mg/kg for products of plants and animal origin following Regulation (EU) 2018/1514.
Application
- Separation of the enantiomers of fluazifop-butyl and fluazifop by LC/MS/MS, followed by investigating the stereoselective degradation and transformation of the enantiomers of the herbicide fluazifop-butyl in soil and water
- To investigate the effects of herbicide fluazifop-butyl on broad-leaved weed, Acanthospermum hispidum, and study the mechanism of action of the herbicide on the weed
- To develop a residue analysis method for the determination of fluazifop-butyl and its chiral metabolite fluazifop in soil and vegetable and to investigate the enantioselective kinetics of fluazifop-butyl and the optical pure fluazifop-P-butyl
- To determine the mechanism of fluazifop-butyl action on bristly starbur and investigate the ethylene production and its involvement in lipid peroxidation of the membrane
- Simultaneous determination of fluazifop-butyl and fluazifop in soil samples using HPLC
