Gene Information

human ... TM4SF1(4071)

General description

Transmembrane 4 L6 family member 1 (TM4SF1) is a protein encoded by the TM4SF1 gene in humans. It is a cell surface antigen, which is highly expressed in lung, breast, colon and ovarian carcinomas. The TM4SF1 gene is localized on human chromosome 3q25.1.

Immunogen

Antibody was raised against an 18 amino acid peptide near the amino terminus of human TM4SF1.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Transmembrane 4 L6 family member 1 (TM4SF1) has a novel function in androgen receptor (AR) signaling. Its mRNA expression is higher in prostate cancer tissues as compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is found to contribute to prostate cancer cell metastasis. The TM4SF1 gene serves as a molecular organizer that interacts with membrane and cytoskeleton-associated proteins. It uniquely initiates the formation of nanopodia and facilitates cell polarization and migration. TM4SF1 also regulates tumor cell motility and invasiveness. It is abundant on the plasma membrane and on intracellular vesicles.
