General description

Lentil Lectin Sepharose media is used for purification of a number of glycoproteins and other carbohydrate containing molecules. The lentil lectin ligand has more equal affinity for α-D-mannose and α-D-glucose compared to Con A.

Lentil lectin is a metalloprotein, containing Ca2+ and Mn2+, which binds reversibly to polysaccharides and glycoconjugates containing glucose or mannose type sugars. Lentil Lectin Sepharose 4B is a generally applicable group specific adsorbent and is routinely used in the preparation and purification of a number of glycoproteins and carbohydrate containing molecules.

Features and Benefits

  • Binds molecules that contain α-D-mannose, α-D-glucose, and sterically related residues
  • Compared to Con A, also for glycoprotein purification, Lentil Lectin distinguishes less sharply between glucosyl and mannosyl
  • Retains binding in 1% deoxycholate and is especially valuable for purification of detergent-solubilized membrane proteins
  • Lentil lectin is a metalloprotein, containing Ca2+ and Mn2+, which binds reversibly to polysaccharides and glycoconjugates containing glucose or mannose type sugars
