General description

Bradykinin fragment 1-7 (BK-(1-7)), an endogenous peptide, is present in plasma.

Application

Bradykinin Fragment 1-7 has been used as an external calibrant/standard in the matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) analysis of protein spots.
Bradykinin Fragment 1-7 is used in research on the specificity and kinetics of kininase(s).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Bradykinin (BK) is a pro-inflammatory mediator and a neuromediator. It modulates several vascular and renal functions. Bradykinin (BK) plays a key role in inducing vascular permeability and mitogenesis. It helps to activate the liberation of nitric oxide in inflammatory and cancer tissues.

Degradation of bradykinin (BK) in human plasma was investigated by searching for a stable metabolite as a marker of kinin release in vivo. BK, incubated with diluted plasma, was degraded to des-Arg9-BK (des-9-BK), des-Phe8-Arg9-BK (des-8,9-BK) and Arg-Pro-Pro-Gly-Phe ([1-5]BK). Des-9-BK was
