General description

Chloroform is an organic solvent that can beproduced by the chlorination of methane or lower-chlorinated methanes.

Application

Chloroform can be used as a solvent:
  • To synthesize diaryl ketones.
  • In the palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of arylboronic acids with acid chlorides under the phosphine-free condition to synthesize aryl ketones.
It can also be used as a phosgene precursor in Friedel-Crafts-type aminocarbonylation.(3)
