Gene Information

human ... IL21(59067)

General description

Interleukin-21 (UniProt Q9HBE4; also known as IL-21, Za11) is encoded by the IL21 (also known as CVID11) gene (Gene ID 59067) in human. IL-21 is a type I four-alpha-helical bundle cytokine primarily produced by CD4+ T cells and NKT cells. The heterodimeric receptor IL-21R is dominantly expressed by B cells and shares the common cytokine receptor gamma chain (γc) with receptors for IL-2, IL-4, IL-7, IL-9, and IL-15. Studies indicate that IL-21 potently regulates both adaptive and innate immune responses and possesses widely pleiotropic functions. IL-21 has also been linked to autoimmune disorders, allergies, inflammatory diseases, as well as the pathogenesis of cancer. Human IL-21 is initially translated with an N-terminal 22 aa signal peptide sequence, which is later removed to produce the 133 aa mature IL-21.

Specificity

Expected to react with pro- and mature IL-21 of both isoform 1 and isoform 2 (IL-21iso).

Immunogen

Epitope: Near C-terminus
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to human IL-21 sequence near the C-terminus.

Application

Flow Cytometry Analysis: 3.0 µg of this antibody detected IL-21 in human peripheral blood mononuclear cells.
