General description

Recombinant, human interleukin-1β expressed in E. coli. Major form of interleukin-1 secreted by monocytes and macrophages. IL-1β is activated by proteolytic cleavage of the precursor molecule. Increases nitric oxide production in smooth muscle cells and suppresses apoptosis in rat ovarian follicles. Involved in inflammatory and immune responses and promotes wound healing. Induces nitric oxide synthase in insulin-producing cells. 1 µg of IL-1β corresponds to 1.9 x 105 WHO units.
Recombinant, human interleukin-1β expressed in E. coli. Major form of interleukin-1 secreted by monocytes and macrophages. Induces nitric oxide synthase in pancreatic and smooth muscle cells and suppresses apoptosis in rat ovarian follicles. Involved in inflammatory and immune responses and promotes wound healing.

Biochem/physiol Actions

ED₅₀ = <12 pg/ml as measured in a cell proliferation assay using the murine T-cell line, D10.G4.1 (Symons, J.A. et al. 1987)

Warning

Toxicity: Standard Handling (A)

Physical form

Lyophilized from sterile-filtered PBS, 50 µg BSA/µg IL-1β.

Reconstitution

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-70°C) for long term storage or refrigerate (4°C) for short term storage. Avoid freeze/thaw cycles of solutions. Stock solutions are stable for up to 1 month at 4°C or for up to 3 months at -70°C.
Reconstitute to a concentration of ≥10 µg/ml with sterile PBS containing ≥0.1% HSA or BSA.
