General description

DSPE-PEG(2000) Folate, also known as 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-[folate(polyethylene glycol)-2000], is a functionalized PEG lipid. This lipid is added into liposomes as a targeting ligand for folate receptors, which acts as cellular surface markers for numerous solid tumors and myeloid leukemias. Folate targeted drug delivery is used an effective therapy for the treatment and imaging of various cancers and inflammatory diseases. Folate conjugates with low molecular weight and high binding affinity for folate receptors (FR) on cell surface deliver a variety of molecular complexes such as protein toxins, immune stimulants, chemotherapeutic agents, liposomes, nanoparticles, and imaging agents to pathologic cells without affecting normal tissues.

Application

DSPE-PEG(2000) Folate(1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine-N-[folate(polyethylene glycol)-2000]) may be used in preparation of folate-conjugated liposomes and folate-modified microvesicles (MVs).

Liposomes have been well established as an effective drug delivery system, due to simplicity of their preparation and unique characteristics. However conventional liposomes are unsuitable for the on-demand content release, which limits their therapeutic utility. Here we report X-ray-triggerable liposomes
