General description

16:0-d31-18:1 PS is a deuterated phosphatidylserine (PS), a glycerophospholipid and a natural phospholipid nutrient. It is a vital part of the cell membrane. PS is present in the brain, lungs, heart, liver and skeletal muscle.
Deuterated fatty acids experience exchange of the deuteriums on the alpha carbon to the carbonyl, i.e., C2 position, and will therefore be a mixture of compounds that are fully deuterated and partially deuterated at that position.

Application

16:0-d31-18:1 PS has been used as an internal standard to quantify fatty acid methyl esters (FAMES) using electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS/MS)-based lipidomic analysis.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is implicated in apoptosis and blood clotting. It controls the activity of receptors, ion channels, enzymes and signaling molecules. PS also regulates membrane fluidity. It exhibits ergogenic properties and represses muscle soreness in athletes.

Phosphatidylserine (PS) is the most abundant negatively charged phospholipid in eukaryotic membranes. PS directs the binding of proteins that bear C2 or gamma-carboxyglutamic domains and contributes to the electrostatic association of polycationic ligands with cellular membranes.
