General description

Phosphoserine/phosphatidylserine (PS) is an endogenous phospholipid, that is found in all polyanionic macromolecules.

Application

16:0-18:1 PS (POPS) has been used:
  • in phospholipid mixture for nanodisc preparation
  • in liposome preparation
  • in lipid vesicle preparation for surface plasmon resonance (SPR) analysis

Biochem/physiol Actions

Phosphoserine (PS) can be used as a template for the recognition of cancer antigen 125 (CA 125). It is very essential for healthy nerve cell membranes and myelin. Exogenous PS can be actively absorbed in humans. It has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. It plays a key role in the formation of short-term memory, the ability to create new memories, to focus attention, to reason and solve problems and several other cognitive activities. It actively participates in the locomotor functions, like rapid reactions and reflexes.
