ABCA5 (ATP binding cassette subfamily A member 5) is a member of ATP-binding cassette subfamily A (ABCA) transporters. It is highly expressed in several location of human brain such as neurons, moderately in microglia and at a lesser amount in astrocytes, and oligodendrocytes. It is located on chromosome 17q24.2-q24.3 region.

ABCA5 (ATP binding cassette subfamily A member 5) helps in the transport of various molecules across intra and extra cellular membranes such as endolysosomal cholesterol. It has been studied that deletion of the gene location increases the level of autophagosomes, autophagosomal cargos and endolysosomal cholesterol in CGHT (congenital generalized hypertrichosis terminalis) keratinocytes.
