General description

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) disodium salt is an aminopolycarboxylic acid and a hexadentate ligand. It chelates metal cations to form a stable octahedral complex. It is commonly added to buffers, solutions, and even soil samples to control the concentrations of metal ions or to remove metal contaminants. Metal chelators play a crucial role in various research applications, such as biochemistry, molecular biology, and analytical chemistry. For example, EDTA is a blood anticoagulant that chelates calcium ions in the blood, this inhibits clots and is routinely used in hematological assays.

Application

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt dihydrate has been used as a component of the plasma membrane resuspension buffer, inhibitor′s preservative solution (IS) and luciferase activity assay mix.
Chelator of divalent cations. Inhibits enzymes, such as metalloproteases, that require divalent cations for activity.
