General description

Alpha-(1,3)-fucosyltransferase 3 (FucT-III; Galactoside 3(4)-L-fucosyltransferase) is highly expressed in the small intestine, colon, stomach, and kidney. It is a member of the glycosyltransferase family of proteins which are involved in a glycosylation pathway that attaches fucose to Lewis epitopes of target molecules. This type of post-translational modification allows modified (fucosylated) molecules to recognize specific target substrates. Fucosyltransferases may therefore play an important role in communication at the cell surface. FucT-III may play a role in blood group determination as it is involved in the expression of antigens such as Lewis B, sialy Lewis X, Vim-2, and Lewis A.

Specificity

No homology to Rat and Mouse was found.
This antibody recognizes FucT-III at the lumenal region.

Immunogen

Epitope: Lumenal region
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to the lumenal region of human FucT-III.

Application

Anti-FucT-III Antibody detects level of FucT-III & has been published & validated for use in Western Blotting.

Western Blot Analysis: 1 µg/mL from a representative lot detected FucT-III on 10 µg of transfected lysate and did not detect the non transfected lysate.

Quality

Evaluated by Western Blot in human liver tissue lysate.

Western Blot Analysis: 0.5 µg/mL of this antibody detected FucT-III on 10 µg of human liver tissue lysate.

Target description

~50 kDa observed. The calculated molecular weight of this protein is 42 kDa, but can be observed at ~50 kDa due to high glycosylation. (Christensen, L, et al. (2000). Glycobiology. 10(9):931-939.)

The alpha1,3/4-fucosyltransferases are involved in the synthesis of fucosylated cell surface glycoconjugates. Human alpha1,3/4-fucosyltransferase III, -V, and -VI (hFucTIII, -V, and -VI) contain two conserved C-terminal N-glycosylation sites (hFucTIII: Asn154 and Asn185; hFucTV: Asn167 and Asn198; and hFucTVI: Asn153 and
