二甲基乙基铵丙烷磺酸盐已用于评估人类DNA解旋酶II/Ku自身抗原的各个亚基的功能特性的研究中。 它也已用于研究共聚物水凝胶在各种盐溶液中的溶胀行为。
非洗涤剂磺基甜菜碱是一种用于非变性蛋白纯化的化合物。提高膜、核和细胞骨架相关蛋白的提取率。两性离子在很宽的pH值范围内，很容易被透析除去，并且在近紫外范围内没有明显的吸收。具体应用包括微粒体蛋白抽提、核蛋白回收、IEF中沉淀减少、膜结合蛋白酶纯化等。
