IgA抗体在粘膜免疫中起着至关重要的作用。它可以结合免疫原/病原体以限制其进入粘膜。抗人IgA（α-链特异性）产品可提高对人IgA的敏感性，而不会与其他物质发生交叉反应。由于与小鼠或大鼠的物种间交叉反应极低，使其适用于筛选由包含小鼠或大鼠免疫球蛋白的杂交瘤细胞产生的抗体。
