Gene Information

human ... PPARA(5465)

General description

Anti-PPAR-α antibody detects endogenous levels of total PPAR-α protein.
The PPAR-α (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α) gene is mapped to human chromosome 22q13.31. Ppar-α is localized to the nucleus.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human PPAR-alpha.

Immunogen Range: 6-55

Biochem/physiol Actions

PPAR-α (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor α) is a receptor transcription factor that inhibits inflammation, by preventing the nuclear factor κB activation. Omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids is known to be the ligand that brings out the anti-inflammatory action of Ppar-α. Ppar-α is involved in epidermal proliferation and differentiation and therefore serves as a skin barrier. PPARα mediates lipid metabolism by inducing fatty acid oxidation and also regulates glucose metabolism. Variation in the gene is observed in schizophrenia.
