General description

Anti–inhibin alpha is an antibody against a peptide hormone which has demonstrated utility in the differentiation between adrenal cortical tumors and renal cell carcinoma. Sex cord stromal tumors of the ovary as well as trophoblastc tumors also demonstrate cytoplasmic positivity with this antibody. This antibody has been used to make the differential diagnosis of intrauterine vs. ectopic pregnancy in endometrial curettings.

Anti-alpha-inhibin, an antibody directed against a peptide hormone, has been shown to be a useful diagnostic aid in surgical pathology material for the identification of sex cord-stromal neoplasms and recently has been described in adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC). The diagnosis of

Placental trophoblasts are the primary source of serum inhibin during pregnancy. We sought to characterize inhibin immunolabeling in trophoblastic neoplasms and compare the results with those for established markers of trophoblastic differentiation. This leader reviews recent advances in immunohistochemistry that are useful in the diagnosis of ovarian neoplasms. These include the value of different anticytokeratin antibodies in the distinction between a primary ovarian adenocarcinoma and a metastatic adenocarcinoma, especially of colorectal origin.

Inhibin is a heterodimeric protein hormone which appears to be a sensitive serological and immunohistochemical marker of ovarian granulosa cell tumours. The purposes of this study were to examine inhibin immunoreactivity in a wide range of gonadal stromal neoplasms and

Inhibins and activins are dimeric proteins of the transforming growth factor-beta superfamily which have been shown to be expressed in the adrenal cortex. Recent studies have suggested a role for these peptides in the pathogenesis and/or function of adrenal tumours.
