General description

Basic fuchsin is a triaminotriphenylmethane dye that is widely used to stain muscle, mitochondria, and collagen. It is generally a mixture of pararosaniline (C.I. 42500), rosaniline (C.I. 42510), magenta II and new fuchsine (CI 42520).

Application

Basic fuchsin is utilized for various applications:
  • Acid-fast staining
  • Periodic Acid-Schiff
  • Feulgen stain for DNA
  • ENDO culture medium
  • Leifson′s method for bacterial flagella

Basic fuchsin displays anesthetic, bactericidal (gram-positive), and fungicidal properties.
