Application

Various concentrations of Deoxyribonucleic acid, low molecular weight, from salmon sperm has been used:
  • to study DNA binding to silicon-substituted hydroxyapatite nanocrystals.
  • in simple electrochemical DNA biosensors to detect and evaluate DNA damage caused by UV-C radiation and reactive oxygen species.
  • as a precursor in the synthesis of the bio-dots.

Actions biochimiques/physiologiques

Salmon sperm DNA is often used as a blocking agent invarious research applications. It isknown to improve the specificity and sensitivity of the multi-AP assay byreducing non-specific binding and background signal.

Dramatic changes occur in nuclear organization and function during the critical developmental transition from meiosis to mitosis. The Drosophila nuclear lamina protein YA binds to chromatin and is uniquely required for this transition. In this study, we dissected YA's binding

Natural genetic competence is the ability of cells to take up extracellular DNA and is an important mechanism for horizontal gene transfer. Another potential benefit of natural competence is that exogenous DNA can serve as a nutrient source for starving
