Informations sur le gène

Description générale

Folates are necessary and critical components in the synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, and have putative roles in the development of both the spinal canal and brain in the early stages of pregnancy (Yamaguchi, 2007). Folate receptor 4 (Folr4) is a recently discovered cell surface receptor for folic acid on T regulatory cells (Tregs). Studies have shown that Folr4 has an integral role in the maintenance of Treg cell function (Arase, 2009). Expression of Folr4 in Tregs is notably high, making it an opportune marker for the study of Treg cells. When studied in conjunction with CD4 and CD25, Folr4 also provides researchers with a marker to distinguish between Tregs and other T cells (Chai, 2008). Tregs are of interest in therapeutic, drug research due to their ability to actively suppress immune responses.
