General description

Anti-Ubiquitin Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Ubiquitin protein.
Ribosomal protein S27a (RPS27A), also known as ubiquitin carboxyl extension protein 1 (UBCEP-1), is a ribosomal protein, which is naturally synthesized as an ubiquitin (Ub) C-terminal extension protein. The protein is encoded by RPS27A gene mapped to human chromosome 2p16. RPS27 is a 9.8kDa protein characterized with one zinc finger domain in its monomeric state.

Immunogen

The antiserum was produced against synthesized peptide derived from human Ubiquitin.

Immunogen Range: 40-89

Application

Anti-Ubiquitin antibody produced in rabbit has been used in following assays:
  • Western blot analysis.
  • Immunofluorescence-proximity ligation assay (IF-PLA).
  • Immunofluorescence.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Ribosomal protein S27a (RPS27a) is involved in ribosome biogenesis and post-translational modifications of proteins. The encoded protein enhances cell proliferation, controls cell cycle progression, and inhibits apoptosis of leukemia cells. Overexpression of RPS27A or ubiquitin results in advanced-phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute leukemia (AL). Hence drugs targeting RPS27a combining with tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) might be a potential treatment for TKI resistant CML patients. Elevated expression of ubiquitin carboxyl extension protein 1 (UBCEP-1), which is a component of ubiquitin pathway, promotes prostate carcinoma development, via increasing the degradation of proteins involved in growth inhibition or apoptosis. RPS27a might act as a unique stress sensor in cells, which results in increased p53 activity leading to inhibition of cell cycle progression.
