Application

Manganese(II) chloride tetrahydrate has been used:
  • as trace element in the fungal complete medium
  • as a supplement in the culture medium for cochlear organotypic culture
  • to determine its in vivo antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1), vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) and vaccinia virus in mice

Biochem/physiol Actions

Manganese is an essential and one of the abundant metal in the tissues of mammals. It plays a key role in the physiological process like development, neuronal function, immune regulation, reproduction, and antioxidant defences. It functions as a cofactor and regulates the activity of the enzymes like oxido-reductases, isomerases, transferases, ligases, lyases and hydrolases It is involved in the innate immunity against viruses.
