Gene Information

human ... WBP2(23558)

General description

WBP2 is a protein-protein interacting protein that binds to the WW domain of YAP1, WWP1 and WWP2 proteins. WW domain-containing proteins are found in most cells and play important roles in the regulation of a wide variety of cellular functions such as protein degradation, transcription, and RNA splicing. They are also upregulated in many cancers. WBP2 also interacts with the ubiquitin ligase proteins belonging to the NEDD4 family and appears to assist in the regulation of targeting proteins to proteasomes or lysosomes. Also in WBP2 knockout mice, the mice display abnormal brainstem and hearing development, indicating an important role in development as well.
