Specificity

Directed against the Thy 1.1 antigenic determinant which is a monomorphic determinant within rat strains but polymorphic in the mouse (positive to AKR strain, negative to CVA and BALB/c). Thy-1 antigen is present on a variety of cell types including thymocytes, neuronal cells, T-lymphocytes (mouse), stem cells and immature B cells (rat) and connective tissue (Campbell, 1981). Thy-1 is a glycoprotein, 112 amino acids, which is homologous to immunoglobulin domains (Williams & Gagnon, 1982). MAB1406 can be coupled to sepharose 4-B and used to purify mouse Thy-1.1 and rat Thy-1 antigens (Campbell, 1981; Williams & Gagnon, 1982). MAB1406 can also be used to study the killing of Thy-1 tumor cells with antibody-toxin conjugates (Neville, 1982).
