General description

Morphine-6ß-D-glucuronide is a primary plasma and urinary metabolite of the opiate analgesic morphine. Sold under trade names including MS Contin®, Kadian®, Oramorph®, and Roxanol for pain relief, morphine is also a commonly abused recreational drug. This stable-labeled internal standard is suitable for quantitation of morphine levels in urine, serum, or plasma by LC/MS or GC/MS for pain prescription monitoring, urine drug testing, clinical toxicology, or forensic analysis.

Application

  • Comprehensive analysis of analgesics and metabolites: A sophisticated LC-MS/MS method was developed for the simultaneous quantification of analgesics, including Morphine-6-β-D-glucuronide, and their metabolites in human plasma. This technique is pivotal for pharmacokinetic studies in clinical settings, demonstrating the critical role of high-purity analytical standards in medical research (Jutras et al., 2020).

  • Enhanced detection in opioid metabolite research: The study utilized advanced LC-MS/MS techniques to assess the presence of opiates and their metabolites, such as Morphine-6-β-D-glucuronide, in urine following cold syrup consumption. This research underscores the utility of stable isotope-labeled compounds in enhancing the sensitivity and accuracy of drug testing protocols (Yen et al., 2020).

  • Capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry applications: Capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry was employed to determine morphine and its isobaric glucuronide metabolites, illustrating a vital analytical approach for precise measurements in biochemical assays, especially in studying complex drug metabolism pathways (Isbell et al., 2015).
