Allgemeine Beschreibung

AS160 is a protein kinase B (Akt) substrate of 160 kDa, also known as TBC1D4. This gene is mapped to human chromosome 13q22.2 and encodes a Rab guanosine triphosphatase (GTPase)-activating protein (RabGAP). It has a number of insulin-regulatable protein kinase B (AKT) phosphomotifs. AS160 is expressed in many differentiated tissues such as adipocytes and skeletal muscles.

Anwendung

Anti-AS160 (C-terminal) antibody produced in rabbit has been used in immunoblotting.

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

AS160 (protein kinase B (Akt) substrate) is known to play an inhibitory role in the transport of glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) vesicles. AS160 is associated with GLUT4 vesicles in basal states and dissociates in response to insulin. Reduced expression of AS160 in adipocytes has been shown to increase plasma membrane levels of GLUT4 in an insulin-dependent manner.
