Allgemeine Beschreibung

UPK2 (uroplakin II), a 15 kDa protein, is a constituent of the urothelial plaques. It is also termed as UPII. UPK2 gene codes for the single spanning transmembrane uroplakins UPK2a. This gene is located on human chromosome 11q23.3.

Anwendung

Biochem./physiol. Wirkung

Uroplakin II (UPII) is considered as a sensitive marker for urothelial carcinoma (UC). It increases the permeability barrier and strength of the urothelium.
