Tris(trimethylsilyl) borate (TMSB) is an electron-deficient organoborate compound. It is a colorless liquid that that is miscible with many organic solvents, including the linear and cyclic carbonates used in battery applications. Anwendung

Tris(trimethylsilyl) borate has a wide range of applications in various industries, including battery manufacturing, where it is used as an electrolyte additive, particularly in high-voltage lithium-ion batteries. TMSB is a cathode-film-forming additive that forms a thin protective coating called a solid-electrolyte interface (SEI) on the surface of the cathode. Adding TMSB to the electrolyte formulation, even at low concentrations of 0.5 wt.%, noticeably improves capacity retention for NMC, LMO, and LMNO cathodes. TMSB also is shown to reduce the flammability of the electrolyte and improve the thermal stability of LiPF6-based electrolytes at elevated temperatures.TMSB also has catalytic properties, which make it useful in organic synthesis reactions and as a reagent in the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals and other chemicals.
