General description

Pyruvate kinase isozymes M1/M2 (PKM2) is also called Cytosolic thyroid hormone-binding protein (CTHBP), Opa-interacting protein 3 (OIP-3), Pyruvate kinase 2/3, Pyruvate kinase muscle isozyme, Thyroid hormone-binding protein 1 (THBP1) and p58. PKM2 is a glycolytic enzyme that assists in generating ATP. PKM2 also stimulates POU5F1-mediated transcriptional activation, and plays a role in caspase independent cell death of tumor cells. The ratio between the highly active tetrameric form and nearly inactive dimeric form determines whether glucose carbons are channeled to biosynthetic processes or used for glycolytic ATP production. This control of glycolysis and is important for tumor cell proliferation and survival. PKM2 is specifically expressed in proliferating cells, such as embryonic stem cells, embryonic carcinoma cells, and cancer cells.

Specificity

This anitbody is specific to PKM1.

Immunogen

Many tumour cells have elevated rates of glucose uptake but reduced rates of oxidative phosphorylation. This persistence of high lactate production by tumours in the presence of oxygen, known as aerobic glycolysis, was first noted by Otto Warburg more than
