General description

m-FC Broth without Rosolic Acid is recommended for the detection and enumeration of faecal coliforms using the membrane filter technique.{21} Eliminating rosolic acid from M-FC medium improves the MFC procedure by allowing higher fecal coliform colony recoveries with greater ease. Eliminating rosolic acid from M-FC medium, fecal coliform colonies form an intense royal blue colony on membrane filters. The vivid blue color of the colonies makes counting of fecal coliform colonies easier than when rosolic acid was used because of the sharper contrast between fecal and non fecal colonies. Fecal coliforms appear blue, other colonies appear gray to cream coloured

Application

m-FC Broth without rosolic acid is used to grow faecal coliforms in water and effluent samples thus aiding in Environmental monitoring.{22}
