General description
Phosphate buffered saline or PBS, pH 7.4 is a commonly used biological buffer in molecular biology. A 1X working solution is typically used in cell culture and electrophoresis assays to wash away non-adherent cells or any unbound biomolecules. PBS is hypo-osmotic and can be harmful to cells, causing swelling and resulting in cell lysis, if left for extended periods.
Application
Phosphate buffered saline is commonly used in washing solutions for:
- ELISA
- Western Blotting and other protein applications
- Cell culture (sterile filtration recommended)
- Resuspension and sonication of cells
- Immunohistochemistry
Features and Benefits
- Save time with our ready-to-use formulation
- No calculations, measurements, and adjusting pH
- Reliable quality for reproducibility
- Suitable for use in cell culture and electrophoresis
- Biological tests: free of DNase, RNase, Protease, and Nickase
- Chemical tests: Iron ≤10 ppm, Lead ≤5 ppm
Packaging
Foil pouches
Reconstitution
Contents of one pouch, when dissolved in 500mL of distilled or deionized water, will yield a 1X solution containing 10mM Na2HPO4, 1.8mM KH2PO4, 138mM NaCl, 2.7mM KCl, pH 7.4 at 25 °C. Certified to be DNAse, RNAse, Protease, and Nickase free. Certified for use in cell culture.
Storage and Stability
Store at room temperature. Product may naturally agglomerate but can be simply broken up within the pouch prior to use.
