General description

1-Phenyloctadecane belongs to the class of alkylbenzenes, having a higher density of hydrogen atoms. It is found to be less stable to radiation compared to the mixed mono- and di-alkylated benzenes of comparable molecular weight (M.W.).

Application

1-Phenyloctadecane may be used in the following applications:
  • As a verification standard for the method development for determining the mineral oil content in foods and paperboard using on-line high performance liquid chromatography–gas chromatography–flame ionization detection (on-line HPLC–GC–FID).
  • As one of the hydrocarbon models compounds for the functionalization of saturated hydrocarbons by ionization with field-assisted nitrogen insertion and mass spectrometric characterization, which can be used for the identification of the elemental compositions of alkane constituents of complex petroleum-based products.
