SPME Method Development Webinar

WEBINAR

What Does It Cover?

This webinar will shed light into several aspects of SPME method development.  The presentation will include a theoretical explanation of SPME fundamentals and practical suggestions to overcome common errors and bias encountered when using SPME.

The webinar is divided in three main sections: 1) optimization of extraction conditions 2) matrix modifications 3) optimization of desorption conditions for gas and liquid chromatography. Each section is divided in various subsections dedicated to each parameter affecting the performance of the SPME technique. The webinar attendees will be guided through comprehensive understanding of the technology and the critical parameters that influence the extraction process with practical examples from already existing methods.

 What Will You Learn?

  • General principles of SPME method development
  • Optimization of parameters affecting extraction and desorption of the analytes for GC and LC applications
  • The type of matrix modification methods that can be used to promote extraction of targeted analytes by SPME
  • Refine SPME modus operandi

 Who Should Watch?

Anyone performing, or interested in performing sample preparation prior to chromatographic analysis:

  • Analytical Chemists
  • Method Developers
  • Laboratory Managers, Directors, Supervisors

Research Associate

Emanuela Gionfriddo is currently a Research Associate in Prof. Pawliszyn’s research group and manager of the Gas-Chromatography section of the Industrially Focused Analytical Research Laboratory (InFAReL) at University of Waterloo (ON, Canada). She received her B.Sc. (2008) and M.Sc. (2010) in Chemistry and her Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry (2013) at University of Calabria (Italy). Since 2014, she has been working in Prof. Pawliszyn’s research group: her research focuses on the development and testing of new matrix compatible SPME coatings, compatible with both gas- and liquid- chromatography applications and suitable for direct immersion in complex matrices such as biological fluids and foodstuffs: potential application of these coatings involves the coupling of complementary chromatography platforms for both targeted multiresidue analysis and metabolomics studies. She is also active in the development of new SPME methods for determination of contaminants at trace level in various food, environmental matrices and pharmaceutical supplements by GC-MS, GC x GC-MS and direct coupling with MS.
