Syringe Filter Selection for HPLC, UHPLC, LC-MS/MS

WEBINAR

In the analytical testing industry, instruments are becoming more sensitive, and methods demand higher data quality. There are many factors to consider for achieving robust data using liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), including sample preparation. Sample filtration is one of the easiest and most cost-effective types of sample preparation.

Here, we cover the most important factors to consider while choosing a filter membrane, including membrane material, to chemical compatibility, extractables and particle retention. Then, a case study is provided for choosing the right syringe filter device for sample preparation in the analysis of different per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in water samples. PFAS analytical testing is a great example of highly complex methods with high sensitivity requirements, and also requires special considerations when it comes to choosing consumables. In this case, we show that polyethersulfone (PES) syringe filters, Nylon syringe filters, and Nylon syringe filters with a glass fiber pre-filter are all appropriate choices for sample preparation of PFAS samples.

In this webinar, we will cover:

  • Sample preparation, filtration included, is a critical component of successful LC-MS/MS
  • Choosing the right filter depends on many different properties
  • There are unique considerations for sample preparation involved in PFAS analysis
  • In a case study, we show that Millex Express® PLUS polyethersulfone (PES) membrane, Nylon, and Nylon with a glass fiber prefilter syringe filter devices are appropriate for PFAS sample preparation
