转铁蛋白是一种79 kDa的蛋白质，具有两个叶，一个N末端和一个C末端叶，通过一个短间隔子相互连接。结构域相互作用形成金属离子结合位点。
應用
来自小鼠的载脂蛋白已通过表面等离子体共振（SPR）微阵列和血清蛋白交叉反应性分析用于血清蛋白定量。其也用于糖基化研究的分析方法，如完整糖蛋白分析、糖肽分析和聚糖分析。
生化／生理作用
来自小鼠的载脂蛋白转铁蛋白是一种血清蛋白，参与铁向细胞的转移。载脂蛋白可以结合两个Fe3+离子。在铁结合状态下，它称为转铁蛋白。它与细胞膜细胞外表面的转铁蛋白受体结合，内化并在细胞质中释放铁。转铁蛋白循环回到血清进行铁转运。
