磷酸盐缓冲液是手术灌洗液的最常用组分，用于保存活组织。它也用于免疫化学染色流程。磷酸盐缓冲液是光学和电子显微镜的重要固定剂。其缓冲能力对pH敏感，最好在生理pH（7.2-7.4）下使用。
應用
适合用作各种Romanowsky型染色流程的缓冲液，包括Wright Stain、Wright Giemsa、Giemsa、May Grunwald、Jenner和Leishman。在25℃下pH 7.2的磷酸盐缓冲液已被用于收集猪卵巢的卵母细胞。
重構
每瓶可制备3.8 L缓冲液，8.3 mM。
