一般說明
S100B是一种Ca2+结合蛋白，由星形胶质细胞通过自分泌途径分泌，以激活一氧化氮的释放。S100B可能调节小胶质细胞的功能。它也可能与神经胶质细胞中中间丝和微管的动力学有关。抗S100B抗体对人的S100B具有特异性。编码S100B的基因位于人染色体21上。

生化／生理作用
S-100 β亚基（S100B）对神经元和神经胶质具有旁分泌和自分泌作用。在纳摩尔浓度下，编码的蛋白质在发育过程中可促进神经突起的生长、增加神经元的存活率。S100B是黑素细胞细胞毒性的标志物。另外，它还可以作为内分泌抵抗型乳腺癌和非节段型白癜风的血清标志物。在慢性肝病患者体内，观察到S100B的表达降低。
