腹足类动物血蓝蛋白是由10个亚基经复杂排列形成的大分子糖蛋白(4至8个MDa),其自组装成直径为35nm的空心圆柱体。
血蓝蛋白是一种含有高分子含铜糖蛋白。它能够与氧气发生可逆结合,并形成软体动物的细胞外呼吸蛋白。匙孔血蓝蛋白(KLH)是从腹足软体壳类动物 Megathura crenulata的血淋巴中过滤得到的,也被称为巨型匙孔血蓝蛋白。它原产于南加州海岸和墨西哥。
