General description

Dermatan sulfate is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) that is mainly located in the skin and is also found in various mammalian tissues. It is made up of repeating units of N-acetyl-d-galactosamine (GalNAc) and l-iduronic acid (IdoA). Dermatan sulfate interacts with proteoglycans and plays a role in regulating several biological activities, including coagulation, angiogenesis, tumor migration, and growth factor expression.

Application

The Dermatan sulfate USP reference standard is intended for use in specified quality tests and assays. It is also used to prepare system suitability solution for chromatographic identity using liquid chromatography coupled to a UV detector according to the monograph of United States Pharmacopeia (USP).
