Gene Information

human ... SIRPA(140885)

General description

Signal regulatory protein α (SIRPα) is expressed in dendritic cells and macrophages. It is a cell-surface protein. The protein possesses a highly glycosylated extracellular region, three immunoglobin superfamily domains and an intracellular domain with immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs. The gene encoding SIRPα is localized on human chromosome 20p13.

Immunogen

SIRP alpha antibody was raised against a peptide corresponding to amino acids near the carboxy terminus of human SIRP alpha 1? The sequences of the immunogenic peptide differ from those of mouse, rat and bovine by one amino acid.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Signal regulatory protein α (SIRPα) acts as a modulator of immune responses. It has a role in the migration, adhesion, growth and differentiation of cells. SIRPα associates with cluster of differentiation 47 (CD47) and prevents phagocytosis by macrophages.
