General description

2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate (Butyldiglycol acetate, BGDA) is a volatile organic compound that can be prepared by reacting diethylene glycol monobutyl ether with acetic acid using strongly acidic cationic exchange resin as catalyst.

Application

2-(2-Butoxyethoxy)ethyl acetate (Butyldiglycol acetate) may be used as a component to reduce the minimal film forming temperature (MTF) during poly(vinyl acetate)(PVAc) based composite film preparation. It may also be used during the formulation of thick film pastes of silver.

2-Methoxyacetic and 2-ethoxyacetic acids are well known toxic metabolites of 2-alkoxyethanols. The use of 2-alkoxyethanols is now restricted, and the regulations have forced manufacturers to find substitutive solvents, 2-(2-alkoxyethoxy)ethanols. 2-(2-Alkoxyethoxy)ethanols resemble 2-alkoxyethanols, and their most hazardous similarity is their ability
