General description

Reagent alcohol (denatured alcohol) is ethanol that has been denatured by adding additives like methanol and isopropyl alcohol. The addition of these toxic additives makes it non-consumable. It is a constituent of hairspray, spray disinfectants and cosmetics. It is employed in histological and cytological procedures such as staining, slide preparation and also as a fixative. A study reports the use of reagent alcohol as a solvent for the preservation of euthanized sea cucumbers. This is an anhydrous grade solvent with extremely low water content and residue levels making it highly useful for processes that require very low water levels.
