General description

Nanos homolog 3 (Nanos3), also known as NOS-3 or NOS3, belongs to the Nanos family. Nanos is a zinc-finger containing, RNA-binding protein that has been implicated in germ cell development in both invertebrates and vertebrates. Nanos3 has been shown to play an important role in the maintenance of the undifferentiated state of germ cells regulating the spermatogonia cell cycle and inducing a prolonged transit in G1 phase. Nanos3 has also been shown to be essential in the early stage embryo protecting the migrating primordial germ cells (PGCs) from apoptosis. Additionally, it is implied to maintain the germ cell lineage by suppressing both Bax-dependent and -independent apoptotic pathways and to affect cell proliferation by repressing translation of specific mRNAs. Nanos3 is expressed primarily in ovary, testis and brain. In the ovaries, Nanos3 is expressed during multiple stages of oogenesis, including primordial, primary, secondary and antral follicles with the highest expression in the oocytes. In the testis, Nonos3 is expressed in germ cells, type A spermatogonia (SA), primary spermatocytes (S1), round spermatids (S3) and elongated spermatids.

Specificity

This antibody recognizes the C-terminus of NANOS3.

Immunogen

Epitope: C-terminus
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to the C-terminus of human NANOS3.
